Fashion 101: Podcasts That Are A Must-Listen For Your Understanding Of Fashion

Working in fashion means I’m always looking for ways to stay informed, curious and a little ahead of the conversation. Books got me part of the way there but podcasts filled in the gaps that reading couldn’t. The commute, the walk, the Sunday morning where you want to absorb something without actually sitting down to do it. Fashion podcasts have quietly become one of the best ways to understand an industry that moves fast, keeps a lot of secrets, and has more layers to it than any single trend cycle can capture.
The format also does something unique: it lets you hear the industry think out loud. There are several branches here, much like fashion reading. The investigative, the conversational, the historical and the cultural ones that connect what we wear to everything else happening in the world.
Here are the ones worth adding to your rotation.
Fashion Neurosis With Bella Freud

A post shared by Bella Freud (@fashionneurosis_bellafreud)

Fashion is often dismissed as surface. Bella Freud’s podcast makes the case that it’s anything but. Each episode, the renowned British designer invites a guest to lie on the couch (quite literally) and traces the connection between what we wear and who we are. The conversations start with style and end somewhere far more revealing: identity, love, culture, anxiety, politics. Guests range from fashion icons to figures in art, music, film and sport, and Freud has a way of making people say things they didn’t plan to. One of the more quietly radical fashion listens out there.
The Fashion Archives

Hosted by Amelie Stanescu, this is fashion commentary with zero polish and all opinion. Expect deep dives into runway moments and industry politics, sharp takes on the systems behind the image, and candid conversations with names like PR strategist Lucien Pagès, alongside recurring series like Vita Prada, which unpacks the career of Miuccia Prada. It’s fast, unfiltered, and made for listeners who follow fashion the way others follow music scenes.
Fashion People
Hosted by Puck correspondent Lauren Sherman, this is the industry’s most reliable insider briefing — creative director shakeups, M&A drama, DTC downfalls, and the business gossip that never makes it into a press release. The podcast pulls in a rotating cast of guests, from designers like Sander Lak to stylists and Puck’s own retail correspondents. Conversations are less about the clothes, more about the business behind them. Essential listening if you want to know what’s really happening, not just what’s being announced.
Brendawareness

Hosted by Brenda Weischer, this is fashion podcasting stripped of production polish — unedited, recorded straight off her phone, wherever she happens to be. Topics range from fashion week gossip and industry commentary to community building, personal style, and the messier realities of being chronically online and monetising a personal brand. It’s less a structured show and more a running, stream-of-consciousness diary from inside the industry.
The Cutting Room Floor

This is designer-turned-podcaster Recho Omondi’s deep dive into the industry’s actual mechanics: pattern-making, product development, factory floors, the business decisions that never make it to a runway recap. Omondi, who trained at Calvin Klein and Theory before launching her own label, deliberately skips red carpets and trend talk in favour of candid, occasionally uncomfortable conversations with designers, patternmakers and industry insiders — guests have ranged from Steve Madden to Cynthia Erivo. It’s fashion media for people who actually want to understand how the clothes get made.
Articles of Interest

Hosted by Avery Trufelman, this is deeply researched, narrative-driven storytelling about clothing — think of it as a concept album on fashion rather than a chat show. Episodes trace the origins of everything from why women’s clothing lacks pockets to the history of tartan, the invention of the zipper, and how American Ivy style took over the world. Rigorously reported and genuinely surprising, it’s the podcast for anyone who wants to understand fashion as cultural history, not just seasonal trends.
Cant Not

The go-to podcast for vintage and archival fashion — covering archive dressing, sustainability, overconsumption, and the culture around collecting, hosted by a rotating set of voices actually driving change in the vintage space. It’s a favourite for anyone building an archive-focused wardrobe or looking to understand fashion’s relationship with sustainability beyond the buzzword. Guests have included specialist vintage dealers, like the founder of a Singapore-based Comme des Garçons archive shop, making it a rich resource for the deep-cut, collector-minded fashion crowd.
JOYCE: Live Curiously

Produced by luxury fashion retailer JOYCE, this is an intimate, conversation-driven series that goes beneath the surface of fashion’s usual talking points, built around the retailer’s core values of creativity, craft and care. Guests have included Thom Browne, in conversation about his 16-year evolution of the grey suit, and fashion critic Alexander Fury, unpacking the shifting essence of fashion criticism across print and digital. Later seasons expand the lens globally, with conversations recorded from Amsterdam to Hong Kong to Beijing. It’s less news-driven, more reflective — ideal for people who want fashion discussed as culture and philosophy, not just headlines.
Dressed: The History of Fashion

Hosted by fashion historians Cassidy Zachary and April Calahan, this is exactly what the title promises: rigorous, deeply researched dives into the social and cultural histories behind clothing. Topics range from the invention of the zipper to Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball to obscure fashion terminology through the ages, treating fashion as a genuine lens into history rather than just style commentary.
Sustain This!

A weekly slow fashion podcast hosted by Alyssa Beltempo, Christina Mychas and Signe Hansen — a sustainable stylist, a self-described reformed shopaholic, and a colour consultant respectively. Conversations range from mindful consumption and personal style to textile literacy, spotting good-quality clothing, and building a more intentional wardrobe, often with guest designers and industry experts. It’s warm, conversational and unpretentious — sustainability talk that feels like a chat between friends rather than a lecture.
Every Outfit

Born out of the viral Instagram account @everyoutfitonsatc, this is Chelsea Fairless and Lauren Garroni’s weekly deep dive into fashion and pop culture — sharp, funny, and unapologetically opinionated. Expect witty takes that range from Sex and the City costume analysis to Golden Globes fashion and what a TV wardrobe reveals about celebrity culture.
Fashion: No Filter

Hosted by fashion journalists Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley, this is a candid, insider’s look at how the fashion industry actually operates — from the murky ethics of PR to the true cost of overpricing, plus the occasional celebrity guest and Fashion Week debrief. Conversational and easygoing, it’s built on the premise of unfiltered honesty, including tougher episodes tackling race and representation within the industry with guest editors and outside voices. Approachable enough for casual listeners, sharp enough for industry insiders.
