EU Parliament Slams Palestinian Textbooks, Considers Funding Freeze

During the voting session, Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou, a member of the center-right European People’s Party Group, the largest party in the European Parliament, emphasized the necessity of eliminating antisemitic rhetoric from Palestinian Authority textbooks, underlining a zero-tolerance approach.

EU Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi also made a commitment after meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in Brussels that the EU will ensure it does not fund Palestinian textbooks that incite hatred against Israel. The EU aims to prevent its funding from reaching any terror groups, even indirectly.

Last year, the EU withheld hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for the PA over concerns about the content of the textbooks, indicating the significant impact of the textbook content issue on EU funding decisions related to the Palestinian Authority.
